We found out at her first routine eye exam, a few months back, that Kerry has a condition called entropion. This means that some of Kerry's lower lashes turn inward, instead of outward. It's worse in her left eye. They are in constant contact with her eyes...I can't imagine what that must feel like. I get one little eyelash in my eye and it drives me bonkers until I get it out. She has never once complained, and has no redness or watering so this came as a quite a surprise to me although I knew that this is not uncommon in asian eyes. Today was her second visit with a pediatric eye specialist and she said that, just like when she examined her three months ago, the lashes are turning in, there are abrasions, but no scarring yet. So for now she will be watched closely in the hopes that as she grows and her face "matures" the lashes will naturally start to turn outward. In the mean time the eye specialist is setting up an appointment with a plastic surgeon. This is sort of a "just in case", in the event that she starts to see any scarring in Kerry's eye the plastic surgeon will already be familiar with her and ready to do what is needed to prevent permanent damage to her cornea. She did reassure us that surgery is not often needed for this, but she wants to be ready in case, which makes me feel some better. I'm really not liking the idea of surgery. I love my baby's eyes just like they are, BUT if something about them is not healthy then we'll do what has to be done. Pray it doesn't come to that.

Gin praying for Kerry!! I will stay positive that she will not need this to be done!
Oh honey, of course you are concerned!
I think I have heard of this before, but not with someone who was Asian. Is it more prevalent with Asian children per se?!
What does the surgery involve - I'm not sure I understand how this would change her eyes? Are we talking the removal of the lower lashes, or something more cosmetic?
Please let me know what kind of support you need . . . sometimes we want solutions or alternatives from others, sometimes we want to be talked down from the cliff, and sometimes we just want someone to nod their head and say "that's rough." Whatever you need, Mama Bear, I got ya ;o)
I know what you mean about getting something in your eye and having to get it out right away, it must be so painful for her. And I know your Mama's heart is praying it will right itself soon, without surgery. We are praying the same for your dear little sweetheart.

Sweet baby, hopefully she won't have to have surgery for this. I have heard of the condition in the adoption community, but no one I know has had to have surgery to correct it. You are right on though to prepare the way you have - I'd do the same thing.
I can't imagine what that feels like..... I am the same way when something gets in my eye. POOR BABY GIRL!!
I will be keeping you all in my prayers....hoping this resolves itself on its own and that surgery will not be needed. Please keep us updated.
Love to you and your family this Thanksgiving holiday,
Lisa
Oh I will be praying for sweet Kerry Lu. I haven't heard of this but can see how it would affect Asian eyes especially. I would think Emma would have that problem too because of the way her eyelashes are...praying for your sweet girl and keep us updated:)
Aww, sweet baby!! That WOULD be uncomfortable!praying for NO surgery for your Kerry Lu!
